Our penultimate session before a five week hiatus. As always we began with a breathing meditation which led right into some chanting. We explored singing perfect fifths in parallel motion for a while then took to our walking/chanting meditation:
For our rhythmic centering exercises we went with Dizzy Gillespie’s “Who parked the car? I did,” (a good way to learn the meter and accents of 5/4 time). That eventually led to our rhythmic jam, the rhythm of which was generated initially from the line, “I want my MTV.” (Anyone know the song whence this line comes? Or its relevance?)
Then some of us took up melody-producing instruments and all of us produced what might be the “prettiest” piece of all the gatherings to date (though there are many contenders):
(Some amazing piano playing here, if you can hear it!)
And lastly we “embraced silence,” our way of returning to the silence from which we always begin. We were all really listening in this one.
Thanks to everyone who came out! I was really transported at times and find it hard to believe that I’m so fortunate to be a part of this group! See you next week…
